JOLT-ON! 2024: The Great Wave

Today, in this second year on Ethan’s Eternity day, we are keeping focus with a LEGO art piece: The Great Wave by Hokusai.

As we have been remembering Ethan in these last ten days through his engineering and builder spirit, we turned our basement into a studio. The purpose: to work through this large memorial build as a family. We have posted below the time-lapse progression of our journey throughout the day. It was finished by days end…

Our finished piece! This has been a peaceful way to remember our son. Thanks for sharing the time with us. Please let us know the impact you have felt in the comments below. We will be pulling all 7 chapters together into a full time-lapse video along with music from Joe Hisaishi’s “Princess Mononoke”. in the next few days.. as you can imagine, Hisaishi’s music was playing in the background as we built all day today!

We hope and pray Ethan’s legacy will inspire you to share LEGO’s and God’s love with others in the days ahead this year!

  1. Wangs – what a wonderful way to honor Ethan. I never played with Legos, nor did anyone I knew, so this was totally unfamiliar territory for me. The game you brought over was so enjoyable and I hope to purchase a copy for my grandnephew. He is 6 years old and I look forward to putting together with him the Lego characters you left with me. He is very curious and I think he will enjoy the challenge. I won’t be able to see a Lego brick or hear anyone use the word LEGO without remembering Ethan.❤️

    1. That’s awesome Sharon! I cannot wait to hear of all of your LEGO adventures with your grandnephew! Thanks for sharing how this has inspired you to go forward in new ways even though it is unfamiliar territory for you. Hopefully you will be able to find LEGO Creator via a resale site like EBay or even Amazon. And… you can always ask me to bring over a bin of LEGO’s to further inspire the building creativity! Your encouragement and willingness to remember Ethan in these ways with us has helped us greatly traveling through grief. Thank you!

  2. Wow what a beautiful way to remember Ethan today. I thought I loved Legos but Ethan and your family are obviously on a LEGO plain that is truly inspiring! I think I will revisit my childhood love for Legos in the weeks to come, invite friends, and see what we can build!

    1. Thank you Nancy! I love that you are inspired to carry it forward for your own sharing. Looking forward to what develops. Let us know if you have any building questions along the way!
